He was detained on October 31, 2023 and sentenced under an administrative article to 15 days, after which a criminal case was opened against him and he was transferred to a pre-trial detention center for political reasons.
Igor Nemirovich was detained for the first time in early May 2022 and was immediately placed under house arrest, but he escaped and left. In the fall of this year, he applied to the commission for considering appeals from Belarusians abroad and returned home, but this fact was not recognized as “an unconditional basis for the conclusion that he has repented.” On September 27, 2023, he was again detained and placed in custody.
According to the prosecution , on August 10, 2020, Igor Nemirovich posted on Instagram a photo with text in “an indecent form, humiliating the honor and dignity of Alexander Lukashenko, which contained a negative assessment and was insulting towards him.”
At the trial, Igor fully admitted his guilt and said that from May to August 2020 he did not live in Belarus. The Brest resident learned about the events that took place in his homeland from the media. “Succumbing to negative emotions from the events being covered,” he posted on the social network Instagram a photograph of an “offensive nature” in relation to Alexander Lukashenko.
Due to the closed nature of the trial, the essence of the case is still unknown. It is only known that Vladimir Romanovsky was detained in Bobruisk during the “feeding the pigeons” event on May 9, 2020. Then riot police detained about 15 people in the city.
According to the verdict , Romanovsky has now been found guilty of publicly insulting Lukashenko on social networks and has been sentenced to imprisonment.
