According to the indictment, last year Andrei, in comments on the telegram channel “Grodno 97%,” publicly insulted a government official, local district police officer Maxim Chertkov. Andrei was charged with “threatening to use violence against an internal affairs officer.” At the same time, the prosecutor’s office and the investigation already had in hand an expert opinion that Andrei Avsievich’s public opinion contained negative assessments, but there was no reason to claim that he threatened the police officers. But the investigation not only did not listen to the experts, but even reclassified the case as a “terrorist” article. During the trial, another examination was ordered, but it also confirmed the absence of threats from Andrei. Nevertheless, after the crime was reclassified to something else—“inciting hatred”—Andrei Avsievich was still convicted.
