On May 23, 2021, Sofya Sapega and Roman Protasevich were detained in Minsk - they were flying from Athens to Vilnius, but the plane made an emergency landing in Belarus after a false report of a bomb on board. Yulia Vissarionovna Chernyavskaya is a Belarusian writer, culturologist, professor. Yulia is the widow of TUT.BY founder Yuri Zisser.

Yulia was detained on May 18 as part of a criminal case initiated against TUT.BY. They came to her house with a search, where the woman became ill (heart problems), and she was taken to the hospital under escort. After leaving the hospital on the same day, her whereabouts were unknown for more than a day. Later it became known that Chernyavskaya was placed under house arrest.

In December 2022, it became known that 9 defendants in the so-called "TUT.by case", who were accused of complicity in tax evasion, including Yulia, filed petitions for exemption from criminal liability. They pleaded guilty and made amends. That is, at the moment they are NOT yet exempted from criminal liability.

Roman Protasevich is a Belarusian blogger and journalist.

In the summer of 2020, during mass protests against the falsification of the presidential elections, he was the editor-in-chief of the NEXTA telegram channel. After leaving NEXTA, he became the editor-in-chief of the Belarus Brain telegram channel, which was previously administered by political prisoner Igor Losik . Both channels were recognized as extremist by the Belarusian authorities.

On May 23, 2021, as a result of the forced landing by the Belarusian authorities of a Ryanair passenger airliner flying on the Athens-Vilnius route, Roman Protasevich was detained at the National Airport of Minsk by representatives of the special services. It is known that Sofia Sapieha, a student at the European Humanities University, was arbitrarily detained with him.

On May 3, 2023, the verdict was announced to the novel, until the verdict came into force, Roman was left under house arrest.

On May 22, 2023, he was pardoned.
