Chairman of the Viasna Human Rights Center, former vice-president of the International Federation of Human Rights. Laureate of the Andrei Sakharov Freedom Prize and other international human rights awards . He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006, 2007 and 2012. Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize 2022. The chairman of Vesna was detained on July 14, 2021. In the evening of that day, it became known that he was detained for 72 hours as part of a criminal case.

Member of the Viasna Council, Vice-President of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH). Security forces came to Valentin from his apartment on the morning of July 14, the search ended at 10:30. They took all the equipment. Valentin Stefanovich was taken away for interrogation. As it became known, employees of the Department of Financial Investigations came with a search. The search warrant included two articles of the Criminal Code: 342 (organization of actions grossly violating public order) and 243 (tax evasion). Valentin was detained for 72 hours as part of a criminal case.

Viasna lawyer, coordinator of the Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections campaign. Vladimir was detained along with his wife Nina Labkovich on July 14 after a search of their apartment. Marfa, a coordinator of the Viasna volunteer service, was detained on September 17, 2020. She was accused of "preparing for mass riots" and other "crimes." In February 2021, she was charged with additional charges, including "inciting social discord" and "participation in a criminal organization."

In September 2022, the court sentenced her to 15 years in prison, later reduced by three months. Marfa's health deteriorated in prison, including due to COVID.
