Vladimir, a lawyer for the Viasna human rights center and coordinator of the Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections campaign, was detained along with his wife on July 14, 2021, following a search of their apartment. He was taken to the Financial Investigation Department and then to the Investigative Committee for questioning, after which he was remanded in custody for tax evasion.

In September 2022, the case under this article was dismissed, but new charges were brought against Vladimir: smuggling and financing group actions that grossly violate public order.

Vladimir is a finalist for the 2022 Belarusian Human Rights Community Award in the Human Rights Defender of the Year category.

In March 2023, he was convicted and sentenced to imprisonment and ordered to pay substantial compensation. He pleaded not guilty in court.

According to available information, the conditions of detention were tightened, and Vladimir was transferred to a prison regime.

On December 13, 2025, he was released after another visit to Minsk by US President Donald Trump's special representative, Keith Kellogg, and taken to Ukraine.

Pavel was arrested on June 23, 2021, as part of a criminal case for participation in mass riots, initiated in connection with the events in Minsk in August 2020.

In October of the same year, he was convicted of participating in protests that took place on August 10–11, 2020, and sentenced to imprisonment.

He was released in March 2025, having fully served his sentence.

After his release, he was required to report regularly to the police, and his home was subject to nightly inspections. His parents' homes were also searched. Due to this persecution, Pavel left Belarus in late May 2025.

Marina, a confidant of presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, was detained on July 9, 2021, as part of a "KGB operation to purge radicals" and placed in pretrial detention on charges of financing the activities of an extremist group.

On November 10, 2021, the charge was reclassified to a more lenient charge—"training and preparing individuals to participate in actions that grossly violate public order, as well as their financing or other material support." After this, she was placed under house arrest.

On November 11, 2022, the court sentenced Marina to one and a half years of imprisonment in a general regime penal colony, taking her into custody in the courtroom.

She was released in June 2023, having fully served her sentence as imposed by the court.

Evgeniy is a former assistant prosecutor of the Pervomaisky District of Minsk. In August 2020, he initiated an investigation into the actions of people in traffic police uniforms who beat up bikers. The investigation yielded no results, and he soon resigned from the prosecutor's office.

On June 10, 2021, Yevgeny was detained and convicted of "picketing by placing a white-red-white flag on a balcony." Later, the arrest period was extended for another 15 days, and then a criminal case was opened against him for group actions that grossly violate public order. He was additionally charged under the article on "incitement of hatred."

In May 2022, Evgeny was sentenced to imprisonment, and in September of the same year he was stripped of his title.

In the winter of 2025, he was released, having served his entire sentence.

Evgeny was detained on February 26, 2021. He was accused of publishing the personal data of GUBOPiK MIA employees Ivan Tarasik and Alexander Aleksa in a Telegram chat on December 28, 2020, while intoxicated. He added a threat to them and an offensive comment about their place of residence to this data.

In addition, Evgenia was found guilty under the articles “Theft” and “Evasion of serving a sentence” for failure to comply with the sentence of “house arrest” in the previous case.

On September 11, 2025, it became known that 52 prisoners of the Belarusian regime were forcibly transferred to the territory of Lithuania. Among them are citizens of European countries. Among those released is Yevgeny Semenov.
