She is an active lawyer at the Minsk City Bar Association, and has represented the interests of citizens in court in many politically motivated cases. In particular, she was a party to the defense of her son, political prisoner Parkhimichka Viktor Viktorovich (at the moment he has fully served his sentence and has left the Republic of Belarus). Galina has been an active member of the Belarusian Popular Front party since 1994. On April 1, 2017, she participated as an expert in the talk show “Each of Us” on the Belsat channel, which is recognized as an extremist formation in the Republic of Belarus.
On February 28, 2024, Galina was detained and her apartment was searched. She was charged with participating in protests because KGB officers managed to recover deleted photographs from a peaceful protest march on July 16, 2020. In addition, KGB officers accused her of providing financial assistance through Facebook to persons who suffered from repression by the security forces of the Republic of Belarus.
Galina was released on bail, after which she left the Republic of Belarus.

On the evening of June 28, 2024, sudden information appeared about the release of five political prisoners from Belarusian colonies. The Ukrainian authorities achieved the release of their exchange citizens as prisoners. This is how Natalya Zakharenko, Pavel Kuprienko, Lyudmila Goncharenko, Ekaterina Bryukhanova, as well as Nikolai Shvets, a defendant in the “Machulishchi case,” were released. The terms of the exchange were not disclosed. It is noted that the Vatican took part in the liberation. Triathlete. At the end of August 2020, Valentina’s contract at the Minsk triathlon club Tristyle was not renewed. As the athlete said, the director of the club, Dmitry Tolkachev, promised her to continue cooperation, but refused it after he saw Zelenkevich’s “protest” post on Instagram with a photo in which she stood with a white-red-white flag on the roadway during one of the peaceful rallies.
In the fall of 2020, Zelenkevich moved to Russia, where she continued to train and also worked as a triathlon and swimming coach. According to Tribuna, some time ago Zelenkevich returned to Belarus, and soon after that she was detained and remained behind bars until trial.
Before the verdict, the Gerasimenko spouses were free on bail of 200 basic units each. In the first case, it amounted to 8,000 rubles, in the second - 7,400 rubles, which indicates that they were assigned a preventive measure at different times.
The Gerasimenko spouses were accused of participating in one of the protests in Minsk in 2020. They admitted guilt and noted that they took part in the event out of curiosity; they said that they took pictures with white-red-white flags, which they took from strangers in the crowd.
