A criminal case was opened against him for a comment in the fall of 2021 in the Telegram channel "Lukashenko's Mustache" under a video about the head of the communications department of the State Border Committee. While serving his sentence, correspondence was found on the man's phone in which the Minsk resident expressed support for Ukraine. Gomel resident Elena Totskaya attended many trials of opponents of the authorities of the Republic of Belarus. She previously worked in public service, but in 2020 she became an activist and volunteer.
She was detained as a result of a massive raid by security forces on January 23-24, 2024 on relatives of political prisoners and people who sent parcels and letters to political prisoners.
She is involved in the case together with Natalia Zakharchenko. The women are accused under articles on failure to report a crime (Part 2 of Article 406 of the Criminal Code) and espionage (Article (Article 358 of the Criminal Code). The trial will be held behind closed doors.

Ilya was arrested in late October 2023 and convicted twice under Part 2 of Article 19.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus ( distribution, production, storage, and transportation of information products containing calls for extremist activity or promoting such activity).
