A Ukrainian citizen born in Chernihiv. Zakharenko is also charged in the case with Larisa Krupa. The women are charged with failure to report a crime (Part 2 of Article 406 of the Criminal Code) and espionage (Article 358 of the Criminal Code). The trial will be held behind closed doors.
Natalia traveled to Belarus in the second half of 2022. She helped Ukrainians who were stuck in Belarus and unable to leave the country on their own. She traveled to Belarus in her own car. Zakharenko helped evacuate approximately 30 people from Belarus.
During another trip to Belarus, the woman disappeared. She stopped communicating on July 17, 2023.

On the evening of June 28, 2024, news broke of the release of five political prisoners from Belarusian prison colonies. Ukrainian authorities secured the release of their citizens in a prisoner exchange. Natalia Zakharenko, Pavlo Kupriyenko, Lyudmila Goncharenko, Kateryna Bryukhanova, and Mykola Shvets, a defendant in the "Machulishchi case," were released. The news about the detention of two friends (Denis Pischalo, 25 years old and Ilona Zaitsava, 24 years old) was published in the telegram channels supporting the current government of the Republic of Belarus.In the video of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Ilona admits (under pressure from law enforcement officials) that she took part in protest actions and made reposts from telegram channels, which are already recognized as extremist formations in Belarus.
In the winter of 2021, Ilona was convicted under Article 23.34. (Article 342 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus now). She ordered to pay a monetary penalty 2030 BYN (838,84 USD).She worked as a nurse at the Health Care Institution «Minsk Clinical Center of Phthisiopulmonology», Minsk.

Lyudmila is a resident of the Krupsky district, she has tuberculosis, has chronic alcoholism and several criminal records.
On the day of her detention on September 19, 2021, she was traveling to an infectious diseases hospital to be treated for tuberculosis. At the railway station in Molodechno, a woman was sitting on a bench and drinking alcohol when police officers approached her. In front of them, she started shouting that Lukashenko is a goat, pays his policemen who do nothing. This was recorded by video recording devices used by police officers.
According to human rights activists, she was released upon expiration of her sentence.
