He acted as a state prosecutor in the trial of the "Gomel Troika". According to the prosecution, the defendants took part in actions that grossly violated public order, as well as in an attack on employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - according to the investigation, Dmitry Korneev threw a "Molotov cocktail" at police officers on Lenin Avenue, where he was detained, and Zolotarev fled the scene with a second "Molotov cocktail", Kovalev also fled. They were detained later. Following the trial, the judge sentenced Kovalev to 6 years of imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony, Korneev to 8 years of imprisonment, and the minor Nikita Zolotarev, who suffers from epilepsy, to 5 years of imprisonment in a correctional colony.
