Alexander was found guilty in December 2021 of "insulting a government official" for a one-word comment left on the social media site Odnoklassniki addressed to police officer Voynich.
Alexander has a third-degree disability and, at the time of the trial, was caring for his nearly blind 83-year-old father. Shortly before the trial, he refused hospitalization due to a pre-stroke condition, as he wanted to attend the court hearing in person. Nevertheless, the court sentenced him to restricted freedom and ordered him to pay compensation for moral damages to the "victim."
