Roman is a graduate of Polotsk State University: in 2004, he graduated from the electrical engineering department with honors, after which he studied for a postgraduate degree.
During his school years, he won physics and mathematics olympiads, published scientific papers, and filed four patents. He has diverse interests, from drumming to electronics.
He worked for many years as a network design engineer, and in December 2023, he joined Passat Innovations as a developer . There, he developed chip drivers, intelligent uninterruptible power supplies, and voice communication systems. Basalai's level of expertise reflects his ranking on the CodeWars platform: the Belarusian was in the top 0.168% of users for solving C/C++ problems and ranked 1183rd out of millions of users on the platform.
He has a wife and a minor daughter.
