Maxim was detained in a criminal case opened after spontaneous protests that took place on August 10, 2020 in Brest against the falsification of the presidential elections. During the protest, he was wounded in the leg by a rubber bullet. He was convicted of participating in "mass riots". According to the case materials, the total damage amounted to about 24 thousand Belarusian rubles.
According to human rights activists, he was released in the spring of 2024.
