In late August 2020, Alexander was detained along with his sister on a trolleybus, and on December 4, 2020, he was arrested as part of a criminal case. He was charged under Article 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.
In January 2023, Alexander's regime was intensified, and he was transferred to a prison in Zhodino.
