Stefan was initially detained and convicted on administrative charges, but the prosecutor's office later upgraded the case to a criminal one. The Gorki District Prosecutor's Office initially charged Stefan under Article 341 of the Criminal Code (Damage to Property). Under pressure, Stefan admitted his guilt, but when he refused to record a video confessing his guilt on October 29, the prosecutor's office reclassified the charge to Part 1 of Article 339 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (malicious hooliganism). The sentence was one year of imprisonment in a general regime penal colony.
