On October 27, 2020, the men stood at the plant's entrance with signs supporting peaceful protests against the falsification of the presidential election results and violence against civilians by the ruling regime's security forces. The workers were subsequently persecuted .
Vladimir Churilo, as the lead engineer and technologist at the fuel-catalytic plant processing sulfur crude, was repeatedly mentioned in the plant and industry newspapers as a "Best Employee," inventor, and innovator. He received awards from the refinery's management.
