Evgeny was found guilty in August 2021 of "desecration of state symbols" for demonstratively tearing and burning the Belarusian national flag with an acquaintance. The trial was filmed and posted online. The video was freely accessible, allowing internet users to watch and share the performance. Evgeny was sentenced to restricted freedom without a referral.
The prosecutor's office appealed the verdict, and Evgeny's sentence was changed to one year of restricted freedom with placement in an open-type correctional facility.
