Yulia and her mother were detained because of photos from women's marches. But in all the images shown, women are standing on hiking trails. It is known that Julia has a 4-year-old son. Together with her husband Ales Misun, she is involved in athletics and regularly runs half marathons. Ales is one of the most successful young entrepreneurs in Belarus. He is the co-founder of the digital agency Qmedia.
Yulia and her mother Tamara have their own business firm, Korolev Trade, which has existed for more than 15 years. The company sells services and products in the field of “beauty, spa and wellness.” In addition to cosmetics, these also include devices for creating spa areas and beauty salons, as well as turnkey salon design services.
The woman was accused of participating in the “March of Heroes” on September 13, 2020 in Minsk and entering the roadway. As reported in the court order, Yulia carried a white-red-white flag on her shoulders and showed a “V” sign with her hand. At the trial, the woman said that she and her friends went out onto the roadway to take pictures.
The Minsk resident was identified from a photograph from the protest rally and using mobile operator data about the telephone connections of her subscriber number.
In addition, the court ruling reports “active assistance in exposing other participants in the crime” on the part of Yulia. Allegedly, Yulia provided personal information about other March participants who were with her in the photograph. Her lawyer asked to take this fact into account and reduce the punishment. But the court refused, since “the accused indicated only the circumstances of the crime she committed.”
Before the trial, Yulia was held on bail of 18,500 rubles. Yulia was pregnant at the time of the trial.
2.5 years of restriction of freedom without direction.
How to write a letter
✏️ A postcard with words of encouragement (a poem by your favorite author, song lyrics, or a beautiful quote). Trust us, even such simple gestures are very meaningful to a person in jail.
✏️ Your life events. To a person who is in isolation for a long time, any story about your routine endeavors will be a window into normal life. Your day-to-day worries and mundane matters are much more interesting than the daily grind of life behind bars.
✏️ It is important to share news. Mention the most notable and interesting occurrences depending on your pen-pal's interests.
✍️️ Remember that every letter is censored. This means that your letters are read by strangers whose main goal is to limit inmates' access to information or to use it against the prisoners or even you.
So try to avoid:
👉️️ harsh statements regarding ongoing political matters
👉 statements against the authorities and public servants
👉 foul language
👉 discussion of the circumstances of the criminal case
