Andrey and his wife are Ukrainians, both from Chernihiv. The couple moved to Belarus after getting married: it was his wife's wish, as her parents lived there.
The family had been living in Vitebsk for 10 years. Andrei worked as an electrician at the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. He was also detained at work.
In the pro-government film "Gaspar Didn't Get in Touch" on the ONT television channel, aired on April 5, 2023, Andrei was accused of being an agent for Ukraine.
As the film reports , Shmai regularly sent information via the Signal messenger to Ukraine to his younger brother, Ruslan, who serves in the Chernihiv operational directorate "North" and is the deputy commander for operational affairs.
On December 13, 2025,he was released after another visit to Minsk by US President Donald Trump's special representative, Keith Kellogg, and taken to Ukraine.

👉 statements against the authorities and public servants
👉 foul language
👉 discussion of the circumstances of the criminal case
