In the period following the 2020 presidential elections in Belarus, Ilya Sergeyevich Belous, while serving as a judge of the Oktyabrsky Court of Vitebsk, heard administrative cases against citizens detained for participating in peaceful protests. According to eyewitnesses, he imposed fines and administrative arrests (ranging from 4 to 17 days) without sufficient justification and did not issue acquittals. In doing so, he facilitated politically motivated repression and violated citizens' rights to a fair trial.
