On November 15, 2020, Marharyta was detained during a post-election protest in Minsk.
On February 28, 2022, she was detained in Minsk again, this time at an anti-war action: Marharyta had been honking her horn while driving. At the Investigative Committee, a video from a 2020 march was found on her phone, after which a criminal case was opened against her.
In June of the same year, Marharyta was found guilty in a criminal case initiated under the article "Organisation and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them" and sentenced to restricted freedom with referral to an open-type correctional facility.
Marharyta later left Belarus.
In November 2024, a court hearing on toughening her punishment was held in absentia as part of special proceedings.
