Maxim was arrested in September 2021 in connection with a criminal case opened under the article "Desecration of state symbols." In December of that year, he was found guilty of tearing down a flag on a street in Gomel and sentenced to imprisonment in a penal colony.
He was released in June 2022, having fully served his sentence as imposed by the court.
