Kirill was arrested in June 2022 for comments he made on social media. He spent six months in pretrial detention. The court ordered Kirill to undergo mandatory security measures and treatment in a psychiatric hospital with enhanced supervision, as he was diagnosed with depressive disorder while in pretrial detention. The cause of his depressive disorder was pressure and harsh treatment by security forces and the inhumane conditions of detention in the pretrial detention facility.
On April 18, 2024, the Cherven District Court changed his security and treatment measures from compulsory treatment in a psychiatric hospital with enhanced supervision to compulsory treatment in a psychiatric hospital with standard supervision. In April, he was transferred to a general regime, and in December 2024, to outpatient compulsory treatment.
In July 2026, the commission decided to lift the compulsory treatment order, and the court ordered an expert examination. If the compulsory treatment order was lifted, Kirill faced the risk of having his criminal case reopened, as the statute of limitations for criminal prosecution had not yet expired. He was forced to leave the country.
