Ilya was arrested on January 20, 2022, initially on administrative charges, for which he was sentenced to administrative arrest. He was subsequently arrested again in connection with a criminal case for group actions grossly violating public order and placed in pretrial detention.
In May 2022, Ilya was convicted of participating in protests that took place in Minsk in 2020 and sentenced to restricted freedom without being sent to an open correctional facility.
