In 2020, a criminal case was opened against Yan, the editor of the NEXTA Telegram channels, under a number of articles, including "organizing mass riots" and "inciting hatred." As part of the special proceedings, in May 2023, he was convicted in absentia and sentenced to a long term of imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony. According to the Belarusian state news agency BelTA, the defendants in the "case" are accused of committing at least 1,586 crimes, and a claim for more than 30 million rubles has been filed.
Earlier, the KGB included Yan on the “terrorist list”, and the NEXTA channel in Belarus was recognized as a “terrorist organization”.
The man, according to the materials of the prosecution, posted publications in Telegram in which he gave a negative assessment of Lukashenko — profanity was used in the messages. In them, the accused allegedly also called for violence against military man of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, law enforcement officers, incited national and social enmity: «Russian invaders participating in the forcible seizure of foreign state territory by military force».

Igor is a former officer of the Almaz special forces unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a captain at the time of his dismissal. He is credited with participating in the brutal dispersal of protesters at the intersection of Pushkin and Pritytskogo streets (Pushkinskaya metro station) in Minsk in 2020.
