She handed down punitive sentences in politically motivated cases, in which she awarded fines totaling at least 5,995 rubles. Solopan also refused Marina Matsulevich’s request to declare the contract with lawyer Kalenikova illegal, because of the poor quality of her services, her son received 14 years in prison under Part 4 of Article 328 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. Kalennikova did not give the guy time to familiarize himself with the documents and protocol, but forced him to sign without looking, as a result of which Maria Matsulevich’s son incriminated himself. By law, he was required to be given an hour of time. Also knowing about the difficult financial situation of the mother, the lawyer signed an agreement with her and took 460 rubles in fees from her, without warning that for the first days she could work at the expense of the local budget. Kalenikova did not come to court as a defendant; instead, there were two other lawyers who could not answer the plaintiff’s questions, because stated that they were not present at the court where her son’s case was heard and, accordingly, were not aware of what was happening there. But Solopan considered all this insufficient to recognize the contract with the lawyer as illegal.
